I love decorating the house with our traditional Christmas decorations (that we had since my brother and I were young) on the Saturday after Thanksgiving with my family including my Grandma. I also love waking up on Christmas morning to eat my Grandma’s Christmas tree bread. It’s the best!
My favorite part of the holidays is the realization that people all over the world are – for at least a little while – taking the time to stop, reflect, laugh, hug, appreciate, pray, hope and give.
The holidays here in Hawaii are so completely different than anything I ever experienced back on the mainland. Family and community are what it is all about. There isn’t the stigma of getting the best gift, or racing to the stores to battle the crowds. A good holiday season is when you get to spend time with family and friends each and every day. Having an open house for thanksgiving, handing out meals for the homeless, and volunteering at the senior center, it’s all about giving back! Not to mention the smells of cedar, cinnamon, and mint, the twinkling lights, and Christmas carols. It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
